Map Suite Wpf Desktop Edition FAQ General Questions

What is the difference between Map Suite WPF Desktop Edition and the standard Map Suite Desktop Edition?

The standard Map Suite Desktop Edition comes with two types of GIS controls: a Winforms control and a WPF control. The WPF control included with the standard Desktop Edition is built on the same codebase as the Winforms control, and thus doesn't take advantage of many of the new technologies being offered by WPF.

In contrast, Map Suite WPF Desktop Edition includes a natively-designed WPF control for GIS. This new control has been redesigned from the ground-up to leverage many of the advantages of WPF, including direct canvas drawing, multi-threaded drawing, transitions during panning and zooming, and much more. If you want to build a WPF application with Map Suite, then Map Suite WPF Desktop Edition will deliver a broader range of features and capabilities.

It should be noted that both the standard Desktop Edition and the new WPF Desktop Edition support the same framework of GIS core features, including renderers, track shapes, geometric functions, data format support, and so forth.
