What are the licensing options with ThinkGeo's Map Suite Products?

Map Suite 9.0 and 10.0 products offer both subscription and perpetual licensing options.

If developers are interested in purchasing mapping component licensing forever then our perpetual licensing is the best route. Yearly software assurance renewal ensure year-round support and the ability to upgrade to our latest versions when they are released.

Alternatively if a short project is all you need our components for then a subscription license is the best fit. Year long subscriptions are available for the majority of our core Map Suite products and specifically times subscriptions can be negotiated.

How does a user who has bought a Map Suite license access the Daily Builds available?

If you're using Map Suite 9.0 you will want to login to your ThinkGeo.com with your credential and access the community portal. Once there you'll find the Support tab. Within Support look for:

Alternatively users on Map Suite 9.0 can access Daily Builds via their Product Center.

If a user is on Map Suite 10.0 Daily Builds are exclusively accessed through NuGet.

Where can I access Map Suite samples?

Every sample ThinkGeo has to offer is available on https://github.com/ThinkGeo; just download and run, and that's it. Even if you are new to ThinkGeo, no installer needs to be downloaded or installed to run the sample, in fact you don't even need to stop your debugging. If you're browsing our website samples are located one each web page of the respective product you're interested in as well as on our ThinkGeo Wiki.

What dependencies does Map Suite need on 9.0 vs 10.0?

By splitting MapSuiteCore 9.0 assemblies by functionality, it is easy to import necessary assemblies to projects. Map Suite Products are hosted on NuGet servers instead of the Map Suite installer. Movement of the required assemblies to a specific package makes it easier to deploy.

9.0: unmanaged dependencies are in system32 folder.
10.0: unmanaged dependencies are in the specific package.

With this switch from system32 to the bin folder of the project, it becomes much easier to deploy your project on the target machine(s) as there is no need to install to the registry.

What are the biggest feature differences in Map Suite 10.0 vs 9.0?

In the dialogue below we have some feedback regarding Map Suite 9.0 and how it is remedied in Map Suite 10.0

Map Suite 9.0 “Its only operational on Windows, I wish I could be developing on Linux as well. “
Map Suite 10.0 It now works on Linux/Mac through mono. You can develop the web server on Linux and Deploy it on Linux. You can get a better deal by just doing that.
Map Suite 9.0 “The sample looks like what I need, but how do I make it run on my machine? I have to install this 170MB product center, sign up, activate the license, download the right version, change my reference in the sample……., that takes forever. “
Map Suite 10.0 Bump into a really good Map Suite Sample on GitHub? Just download and run, and that's it. Even if you are new to ThinkGeo, no installer needs to be downloaded or installed to run the sample, in fact you don't even need to stop your debugging.
Map Suite 9.0 “The Daily Builds feature is awesome, but it's a bit overwhelming as it literally build daily even if there's no changes at all. Also I need to login to the portal, download that newer version and replace the assemblies in my project, too much work there, you know. “
Map Suite 10.0 A new Daily Build package is created only when changes are made. Want to keep the packages up to date? just click that single “Update” button in your NuGet Manager in Visual Studio and you are all set.
Map Suite 9.0 “The project works on my development machine but doesn't work on the server, and it turned out I have to install whole bunch of dependencies in System32 folder. “
Map Suite 10.0 The unmanaged dependencies are now in the bin folders as well. Just copy the bin folder to the new machine and it's good to go.
Map Suite 9.0 “Seems ThinkGeo fixed a bug in my Desktop Edition 2 months ago but it still exists in iOS/Android edition. “
Map Suite 10.0 The Core APIs and sources are shared across all Map Suite product lines. Once it's fixed in our Desktop Edition, it gets fixed automatically in iOS/Android Edition.

I installed the deployment license I bought but the "Not Licensed for Runtime" watermark still exists. How can you help?

  1. Uninstall your deployment server, and deactivate all the activated licenses if there’s any using your current version of product center.
  2. Clean up all the files within C:\ProgramData\ThinkGeo
  3. Update your product center to the latest version through Nuget
  4. Run the new product center and reinstall your deployment server
  5. If you still have the “Not licensed for Run Time” watermark, please make sure you’ve cleaned up the local cache and restart the web site.
