Welcome to Map Suite™ Silverlight Edition from ThinkGeo, a full-featured mapping control that makes it easy for any Microsoft .NET developer to add mapping functionality to a Microsoft .NET and Silverlight application quickly and efficiently. Using the intuitive object model, even developers inexperienced in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can have fully functional maps working in minutes.
In this article, we will discuss how to install Map Suite Silverlight Edition 6.0.0.0 on your machine and upgrade your development environment. Here we use Microsoft Silverlight 3 for example.

Setting up the Environment
Install VS 2008 with SP1
To process ahead with the installation of Map Suite Silverlight Edition, you should have VS 2008 with SP1 installed. The VS2008 SPI can be downloaded from Visual Studio 2008.
Install Silverlight SDK
After installing VS 2008 and VS 2008 SP1, you need to install one of the following Silverlight Tools:
These add-ons for Visual Studio or Visual Web Developer Express will install the necessary Visual Studio updates, Silverlight project templates, developer runtime, and SDK.
NOTE: In order to install Silverlight 3 or 4, you will have to remove other versions installed before.
Getting started with Map Suite Silverlight Evaluation Edition
Download Map Suite Silverlight Edition Evaluation Edition, which includes development SDK and "How DO I" samples.
NOTE: : Please make sure you have an internet connection while running this installer as it needs to register on line.
Your Installation steps will look like this as following:
Click Next -> Agree License Agreement -> You will get installation progress screen:
Now, your development environment is ready and you can have GIS featured travel with installed samples or create any application you want with Map Suite SDK, which can be found at “[Installation Folder]\ ThinkGeo\Map Suite Silverlight Evaluation Edition 6.0\”.
Getting started with Map Suite Silverlight Full Edition
If you have purchased the Map Suite Silverlight Full Edition, you can get the installer package from ThinkGeo Customer Portal. And make sure everything works fine with you, let us go through with you.
Online Install (Recommended)
Everything will be simple if the machine has an internet connection as it will register online automatically. You installation will look like this as following:
Please click Next -> Agree License Agreement -> You will be required to input the serial number from ThinkGeo. If the input number isn’t the right format, it will show the warning message like the below:
After you input the correct Serial Number, please click “Next” until display the following screenshot:
Warning: A dialog will show you the message “The Serial Number you entered could not be activated. Please contact ThinkGeo to resolve this issue. Error Message:” if the input serial number is not correct or the one ThinkGeo authorized. And the installation will run into error.
Off-line Install
The Map Suite products also allow us to install the package without internet required. Everything is similar to the online installation except the final step. At the end of the installation, a dialog will show as following:
Two options are provided. “No” means that install the product without registration. Click “Yes” to register manually and the “Map Suite Registration Builder” will display:
Click “Generate Request File” to get a “*.request” file, and then send it to
support@thinkgeo.com
with a short description about your installation. Normally, you will received a “*.license” file in less than one day. Please register the product manually following the below steps:
1. Open the “Map Suite Registration Builder” at “[Installation Forlder]\ThinkGeo\Map Suite Silverlight Full Edition 6.0\Miscellaneous\Map Suite Registration Builder”, and click “Import License File”.
2. Select the “.*license” file from ThinkGeo and click “Open”, successful if showing the dialog as following:
Note: Please make sure you run the “MapSuiteRegistrationBuilder” with administrator account.
Now, your development environment is ready and you can have GIS featured travel with installed samples or create any application you want with Map Suite SDK, which can be found in “[Installation Folder]\ ThinkGeo\Map Suite Silverlight Evaluation Edition 6.0\” for Evaluation Edition or “[Installation Folder]\ ThinkGeo\Map Suite Silverlight Full Edition 6.0\” for Full Edition.
